Our Vision

At Holdbrook, we want every child to develop a love of learning that stays with them throughout their lives.

We want our children to be curious, confident and enthusiastic learners who strive to achieve their best. Above all, we want them to be happy, feel valued and develop the confidence, knowledge and skills they need to thrive as members of our school community and the wider world.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to nurture the whole child. We believe that children need more than academic knowledge to flourish. They need opportunities to discover the world, develop their talents, build positive relationships and grow into confident and responsible individuals.

Our curriculum is built around three key areas of learning:

Academic Learning

We want our children to develop strong foundations for lifelong learning. They will:

• Develop excellent skills in reading, writing, mathematics and computing, giving them the knowledge and confidence they need for their future.
• Become confident communicators who can express their ideas, thoughts and feelings clearly.
• Be exposed to a rich and varied vocabulary, developing a love of language and reading.
• Become independent, motivated learners who take pride in their achievements and are encouraged to always do their best.

World Learning

We want our children to be curious about the world and develop a deep understanding of the people, places and ideas that shape it. They will:

• Experience a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum that builds knowledge and understanding of the world around them.
• Develop the skills and knowledge to become young scientists, historians, artists, designers, athletes, explorers, geographers, archaeologists, philosophers and musicians.
• Be encouraged to ask questions, investigate, explore and think critically.
• Make connections between their learning and the wider world.
• Develop an appreciation of different cultures, communities, environments and perspectives.

Personal and Social Learning

We want our children to grow into happy, healthy, confident and compassionate individuals. They will:

• Feel safe, valued and supported, developing confidence and a strong sense of self.
• Show kindness, respect and tolerance towards others, celebrating our differences and individuality.
• Develop self-motivation, resilience and self-discipline.
• Build positive friendships and enjoy the many experiences and opportunities offered at Holdbrook.

Learning beyond the Classroom

We believe that some of the most powerful learning happens through experiences.

Our children will have opportunities to discover, develop and nurture their own talents and interests. Through trips, visitors, clubs, performances, sporting opportunities, creative experiences and learning beyond the classroom, such as ‘I Shine Academy’, we aim to give every child a wealth of memorable experiences that inspire curiosity, build confidence and broaden their horizons.
