Happy Monday Year 5,

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. Can you believe we are already in week 5 of our lockdown learning? We are also now in February, the time really is flying. I saw a huge improvement in the standard of work being handed in which was great. Most of you are working really hard and should be really proud of your efforts. I look forward to speaking with you all on our zoom at 9:30 – thank you to those of you who are attending every single day 😊

Work hard,

Miss Stephens

Reading

Make sure that you are reading your book of choice for at least 30 minutes. I would like you to summarise what you have read in 10 words.

Remember to complete those Lexia minutes – I will be handing out dojos. Last week only 7 of you managed to reach your target – I think we can do much better than that.

I will also be setting you a comprehension task to complete on purple mash. Make sure you read the chapter carefully before attempting to answer the questions. I am looking to see who is getting 5 out of 5.

Writing

Remember that you need to be changing the bits that I have highlighted in yellow using either your own ideas or my suggestions to help you. Write your completed plot point by hand then take a photo and post it either to the English blog or the year 5 email. I want to see beautiful handwriting and accurate punctuation. Remember to read back over your work.

PSHE

We are continuing with our work on ‘Dreams and Goals’.

I would like you to think of a goal that you would like to achieve. This can be absolutely anything that you like from learning to play an instrument to trying to be a more organised person. You don’t have to choose a goal that can be achieved any time soon it might be a more long term goal for example visiting every country in the world.

Once you have decided on your goal I want you to break it down into smaller steps that you would need to follow in order to be successful.

Please use the document below for further guidance on what to do. If you want/are able to print the sheet then please do so and complete it. If not you can create your own version. Please remember to send me a picture of your completed work or tell me about your goal and how you aim to achieve it on the Year 5 blog.

I will also share this on our Year 5 blog just in case anyone struggles to open a pdf document.

Art

I would like you to create a picture of a Viking Longship at sea using the collage technique. For those of you who don’t know what a collage is it involves using smaller pieces of cut up paper/cardboard/material/fabric etc. to create a larger picture. If you are still unsure what I mean please watch the following video.

Making a Landscape Collage - YouTube

For today I don’t want you to start on the longship I just want you to collage the background so the sea and the sky. We will move on to the longship next week. You can use anything that you have lying around your home to cut up and create your collage. If you are struggling to find things you can colour some paper in in different shades of blue then cut these up into smaller pieces and stick them down to create your collage. If you want your picture to be a little more colourful tou could have a sunset sky and include colours such as red, orange and yellow.

Here is an example of what I mean to help you. I will also be explaining more in detail during our zoom call.
