Week Beginning 1st March 2021

Monday 1st March 2021

Good morning,

Today is officially the first day of SPRING (by the meteorological calendar). We have already started to see signs of Spring with the budding of the blossom on the trees and flowers springing out of the ground, but today is the beginning of the new season.

St David's Day

Today is St David's Day! St David is the patron saint of Wales and he is celebrated on the 1 March.

To mark the day, Welsh people around the world wear one or both of Wales's national emblems - a daffodil or a leek.

Draw a Daffodil

Daffodils appear in early spring around the same time as St. David's Day and are regarded as a national emblem.

  • Can you draw, paint, or make a daffodil?
  • What colours will you need?
  • What colour is the STEM?
  • What colour are the PETALS?
  • How many petals are on your DAFFODIL?
  • When you go for a walk, with your grown up, look out for the bright yellow daffodils. Can you smell one?
  • What does it smell like?
  • What do the petals feel like? (Be gentle with the flowers)

Join Daffodil, the Old Oak Tree and Jonathon the Star for an adventure in the garden. This is a story about being special - in your own way!

  • How do you think the story begins? (Once upon...)

Don't forget to join us for ZOOM storytime at 2pm.

  • Can you sign the letters?

Be Creative

Let's get creative and make something using junk materials...

  • Can you find an empty box in your house?  (You can use a big box, a small [shoe] box, a cereal box or even a kitchen roll or empty toilet roll!)
  • What can you make? Use your imagination.
  • Can you decorate your creation with pens, crayons or felts?

Look at the photos below for some ideas.

It was lovely to see you yesterday, for my ZOOM story session, where we enjoyed one of my favourite story books and had a nice chat. Don't forget to join Miss O'Reilly for storytime today at 2pm. I will be there showing my good listening skills!

You can also listen to this story, where a cardboard box has been made into something magnificent.

Good morning,

As we approach the end of our home learning I would like you to find your name in your Nursery Home Learning Book. We completed one of these name sheets at the beginning of lock-down and now I would like you to complete the second one.

  • Firstly, use your finger to trace over the letters, making each letter sound as you do so.
  • Secondly, using your playdough or some colours, fill in each letter of your name.
  • Now take a pencil and holding it in a pincer grip write your name.
  • Have your writing skills improved?

Rhyme Time

Help Mr Tumble and friends play a variety of different nursery rhymes across many different locations with an assortment of instruments.

  • Who likes dinosaurs?
  • Can you count the objects from the School of Roars?

Yoga with Dinosaurs!

Let's time travel to prehistoric times for a yoga adventure, and meet a T-Rex who is learning about looking after his teeth! Then it’s into MORE dinosaur fun and games with a dinosaur disco fun, some fresh yoga poses and a Peace Out guided relaxation to finish!
Have fun everyone!

Thursday 4th March 2021

Good morning,

HOORAY, today is WORLD BOOK DAY - a worldwide celebration of books and reading!

World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe and its mission is to promote reading for pleasure. So let's enjoy the day by dressing-up as a story book character.

  • What is your favourite book/story?
  • Why is this story your favourite?
  • Can you tell your favourite story to your family?

As a school we are focusing on the book What the Ladybird Heard. This is a fantastically funny story, from the stellar picture book partnership of Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks, with brilliant rhyming verse and bright distinctive illustrations. This much-loved modern classic is perfect for reading aloud.

The ladybird said never a word.
But the ladybird saw,
And the ladybird heard . . .

Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len are two crafty robbers with a cunning plan to steal the farmer’s fine prize cow. But little do they know that the tiniest, quietest creature of all has overhead their plot, and she has a plan of her own . . .

  • Can you name the animals in this book?
  • What sounds do they make?

Don't forget to join us for ZOOM storytime at 2pm.

Friday 5th March 2021

Good morning,

Today I would like you to reflect on our home learning and prepare your Home Learning Books to show me on Monday. I do not expect you to have finished all of the activities but I would love to look at what you have done. I am really looking forward to seeing you on Monday.

Thank you to the children who have been sharing their work with me regularly (see below) and to the children who have attended the ZOOM story sessions. I have loved seeing you.

Please join us today, at 2pm, for our final Zoom storytime session!

We know that returning to school after lockdown will be a challenging time for some children. We want to help them to talk about their worries and feelings. Use this book to talk to children about COVID-19 and going back to school. The simple text and child-friendly illustrations show different characters as they learn during lockdown. They are seen practising social distancing, learning from home, clapping for carers, and missing friends and family. Use the story to talk to children about their own experiences during lockdown. If you have any concerns please speak arrange to speak to me.
  • In It Together Share this story with children as they return to school

I have missed this song but we will be playing it lots and lots on our return to help keep each other safe as we remember   HANDS   FACE    SPACE
