Maths:

Today we are going to find out about volume and capacity-how much something holds. Collect together some different objects that can hold water.  You might have cups, glasses, bowls, jugs, eggcups, saucepans etc. Please be very careful when you are using them and tidy up afterwards.

Use the same cup to measure each time. For each object you have, use the cup to find out how many full cups of water it holds (e.g. eggcup-1 cup, saucepan-15 cups). Pour very carefully near the sink. Stop when it is full. If you have a measuring jug you can use that instead and record how many ml it holds.

When you have measured each object, put them in order from the one that holds the least to the one that holds the most and take a photo. Write your results in your exercise book, take a photo and upload to the maths blog or type your answers straight into the contents box.

Topic:

Screen free afternoon.

Try some of these ideas based on upcoming celebrations or think up some of your own!

Chinese New Year

  1. Write a fortune for each of your family
  2. Make up a dragon dance
  3. Build the Great Wall of China out of lego
  4. Act out the story of Chinese New Year, pretending to be each animal
  5. Try a chopstick challenge-see what you can pick up with chopsticks (use the other end of 2 forks if you don’t have any). See if you can pick up skittles/peas/marbles/anything you like

Valentine’s Day

  1. Mix red and white to make pink and paint a picture using it
  2. Write your own version of this poem-you might like to rap it!

Roses are red

Violets are blue

Sugar is sweet

And so are you

3.Make a Valentine’s card for someone you love

    4. Do some exercise to make your heart go faster-what does it sound like?

    5. Make a tune using instruments/body parts/your voice that sounds like a beating heart

Pancake Day

  1. Have a pancake race using real or toy frying pans-you could use a teddy in them as a pretend pancake
  2. Make a menu for different pancake toppings, add prices to it and invite your family to choose their favourite-how much will it be?
  3. Draw and label the yuckiest pancake you can think of
  4. Make a pancake tower using pillows or books or anything else that is good at balancing. How tall can you make it? (Remember to tidy up after!)
  5. Cook some pancakes with your family-can you flip them in the frying pan?
